Supreme Court (SC) has returned the petitions filed against promulgation of presidential ordinance on imposition of Petroleum Development levy with the objections that petitioner is not directly connected with this matter nor have the petitions been filed on proper forum.

PML-N secretary general Zafar Iqbal Jhagra had challenged the promulgation of presidential ordinance through advocate Shoaib Shahid and Ikram Chaudhry. The petitioner through his petition had taken the plea president was not authorized to promulgate any ordinance regarding imposition of taxes and petroleum development levy ordinance was promulgated in the darkness of night. The ordinance was based on ill intent therefore, this be set aside, petitioner prayed.

Earlier PML-N secretary general Iqbal Zafar Jhagra had challenged imposition of carbon tax on petroleum products by the government and SC had suspended temporarily the imposition of this tax. SC ruling had led to reduction in prices of petroleum products. President Asif Ali Zardari had re-increased the prices of petroleum products through promulgation of PDL ordinance over night.
