President, CJP break the ice

President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry broke the ice on Friday by meeting for the first time since the restoration of judiciary to November 3 position.
According to sources the one on one meeting between the President and CJP occurred at the oath taking ceremony of the chief justice-designate of the Federal Shariah Court Mr Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmad Khan, which was held at the President House.
The meeting held in a cordial atmosphere here in the President House Islamabad.
Although, the president administered the oath but since it is a judiciary-specific function it is traditionally attended by every chief justice of Pakistan.
According to presidential sources matters related to higher judiciary and the new judicial policy were discussed in the 20 to 25 minutes meeting. During the course of the meeting the CJP briefed the President about the new National Judicial policy. The president lauded the new judicial policy and said that this would provide the people early and quick justice. He further said that he believes in independent judiciary.
Earlier Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmad was sworn in as Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court on Saturday.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Chairman Senate, Farooq H. Naek and Federal ministers were present on the occasion.
